Sonia was born in Pisa, Italy but left when she was 15 when her Father was tranferred to Rotterdam, Holland. She completed her schooling there and then went on to study at Hotel School at the Hague.

After her studies, she went to the States and did Tour Guiding, mainly in LA and New York. In 1996, Sonia and her husband Alain, went on an overland trip from Brussels to cape Town. Most of the trip was done in a Dodge! The trip took 14 months and having reached Cape Town, they weren't done travelling so drove up through Namibia. They got 'stuck' at Epupa falls, Omarunga Camp, where they built up the camp and then left a few months later to travel down to the Fish River Canyon where they met their prospective partners in business. Back to the US to earn money to buy into the Fish River lodge, the first of 5 lodges they have built up through Namibia. Through all her travels and learning, Sonia speaks Dutch / Italian / French / German / English / Afrikaans and a little Russian!

Sonia enjoys working, motivating staff and generally doing 'hands on' work, hence her desire to help the community. She enjoys her daughter and loves reading. She has joined IWAN expecting nothing, but has built a fabulous social network and gained a sense of belonging in Windhoek.

Anita is very appreciative of the ladies of IWAN who are very generous and offer their talents and support to the whole group. (What a wonderful bunch you are !) Anita hopes that we continue to give each other opportunities and challenges to realize the things that we are good at. She has been an IWAN member now for five months and understands that IWAN as an organisation, offers everyone this challenge and possibility!

Thank you for all your help and support Anita !
